"This is nonsense": Sony criticized Tencent's arguments in the Horizon plagiarism case

The conflict between Sony and Tencent over the similarity between Light of Motiram and the Horizon series continues to escalate. Sony has submitted a new court filing, in which it commented on the Chinese giant's attempt to dismiss the lawsuit filed against it.

Sony stated that it still considers Light of Motiram to be a blatant clone of its projects. It was not convinced by Tencent's arguments about the prematurity of such conclusions before the game is released. According to Sony, the plagiarism is already clear, not just to them — gamers and the media have written extensively about it.

“Tencent claims our allegations are hasty since, purportedly, it postponed the release of Light of Motiram to 2027 after the lawsuit — despite the game’s announcement and several months of active promotion. This is nonsense. The damage is already done, and it continues to grow,” stated Sony.

Sony also pointed out that in an attempt to evade responsibility, Tencent is allegedly "playing a shell game" with its brands. It uses a convoluted network of subsidiary studios to obscure who actually developed Light of Motiram.

Now Sony wants the court to dismiss Tencent's request to terminate the proceedings. Additionally, the company is prepared to amend the lawsuit if certain points require clarification.
