Coté's departure was initially reported by journalists from VGC and IGN, citing an internal letter to Ubisoft employees. Later, company representatives confirmed his resignation to these publications.

It has been reported that Coté was offered a leadership position at Vantage Studios—a new subsidiary of Ubisoft opened with the support of the Chinese giant Tencent. This new entity is now responsible for the development of Assassin’s Creed, as well as the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Far Cry franchises. However, the top manager declined the position and chose to leave Ubisoft entirely.

Coté worked at Ubisoft for two decades. He joined the company as a programmer in 2005, contributing to games like Open Season and Surf’s Up. Coté has been involved in the Assassin’s Creed series since Brotherhood, holding various positions until he became the head of the entire franchise in 2022.
