Warner Bros. has announced the production of a follow-up to A Minecraft Movie, slated for release on July 23, 2027.

According to Variety, Jared Hess will return to both direct and co-write the sequel's script alongside Chris Galletta.

The storyline and casting details remain under wraps, but it has been confirmed that Jason Momoa will serve as a producer along with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, and Torfi Frans Ólafsson.

The first installment of A Minecraft Movie, released earlier this year, amassed $157 million within the U.S. and $301 million globally over its initial weekend.

The film exceeded Warner Bros.’ expectations, which had initially forecasted revenues between $70 million and $80 million against a $150 million budget.

By the close of its inaugural month, it had totaled $550 million worldwide, eventually finishing its theatrical run with $957 million in total earnings.

For the year 2025, A Minecraft Movie stands as the second highest-grossing film, only bested by the Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo and Stitch, which achieved $1.03 billion.

In a recent analysis, Ampere Analysis noted a 30% rise in Minecraft's monthly active users in April after the movie's debut, with 54% of these users being previously inactive players.

GamesIndustry.biz consulted with industry experts regarding the film's impact, suggesting that the movie's achievement could pave the way for more video game adaptations becoming prevalent in Hollywood.
