In a statement to GamesIndustry, representatives of Splash Damage reported that the studio's management remains unchanged. They declined to share other details of the deal, leaving the purchase price of Splash Damage and the names of the investors undisclosed.

Tencent did not comment on the development.

Splash Damage was founded in 2001 and remained independent until 2016. It was then acquired by the Hong Kong holding company Leyou Technologies, which, in turn, was bought by Tencent four years later.

The studio is best known for its work on the games Gears Tactics, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Additionally, Splash Damage contributed to the multiplayer components of Batman: Arkham Origins, Gears 4, and Gears 5, as well as the PC ports of the Halo series.
