Doug Bowser is set to retire, with Devon Pritchard named as his successor as president of Nintendo of America
Nintendo has disclosed that Doug Bowser will retire as the president and COO of Nintendo of America. Taking his place will be Devon Pritchard, the current vice president overseeing revenue, marketing, and consumer experience.
Satoru Shibata is set to become CEO while retaining his roles as managing executive officer and corporate director. Shibata, who began his career with Nintendo in 1985, previously led Nintendo of Europe.
This leadership change is set to take effect on December 31, 2025.
Bowser started at Nintendo in 2015 as the vice president of sales and marketing, advancing to senior vice president in 2016. He assumed the role of president and COO in 2019, taking over after Reggie Fils-Aimé's retirement.
"Leading Nintendo of America has been the pinnacle of my career, and I'm proud of all we've achieved in terms of business outcomes and the consumer experiences we've delivered," Bowser expressed.
"It's time to transition to the next wave of leadership, and Devon's extraordinary capability assures a promising future for the company. She will undoubtedly steer Nintendo to new successes," he continued.
Pritchard, who is to become Nintendo's first woman president, joined the company back in 2006, previously serving as executive vice president of business affairs and publisher relations.
Along with her presidency, Pritchard will also become a board member of Nintendo of America and an executive officer at the Japanese headquarters.
"This role is both humbling and exciting for me," Pritchard remarked. "Having Doug as a mentor has been invaluable, and I am eager to expand upon the remarkable work he has initiated."
Her focus will be on continuing to foster Nintendo's tradition of enchanting both longtime devotees and new players alike.
Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa commented: "Doug's tenure has significantly contributed to spreading joy among Nintendo's audience. I extend my deepest appreciation for his dedicated efforts.
"Devon has similarly made substantial impacts on Nintendo over her career. I trust that she, in the same spirit, will support Nintendo's ongoing mission to create joyful experiences."
