Nintendo has revealed that Doug Bowser will step down from his role as president and COO of Nintendo of America. Devon Pritchard, who currently holds the position of VP of revenue, marketing, and consumer experience, will take over.

Satoru Shibata has been appointed CEO while retaining his duties as managing executive officer and corporate director. Since joining Nintendo in 1985, Shibata served as president of Nintendo of Europe.

The leadership handover is scheduled for December 31, 2025.

Doug Bowser began his time at Nintendo in 2015 as vice president of sales and marketing, advancing to senior vice president after one year. He ascended to the president and COO role in 2019 after Reggie Fils-Aimé retired.

"Leading Nintendo of America has been a career highlight, and I am proud of the business achievements and consumer experiences we've delivered," expressed Bowser.

"It's time for new leadership, and Devon's excellent track record makes her an ideal successor. Her promotion reflects her impactful performance and strategic vision for the company's progression. I am confident she will take the business to the next level."

Pritchard, set to be Nintendo's first female president, joined in 2006 and was executive vice president of business affairs and publisher relations.

In addition to her presidency, Pritchard will join the Nintendo of America board of directors and take on the role of executive officer at Nintendo's headquarters in Japan.

"I am honored and thrilled to embrace this new responsibility," remarked Pritchard. "Doug has been an incredible mentor, and I am eager to expand upon the solid groundwork he established."

"My aim is to further Nintendo's tradition of enchanting long-time fans while also inviting new players into the Nintendo community."

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa commented: "Doug's time at Nintendo was marked by numerous contributions that brought joy to our community. I am thankful for his dedication."

"Devon, the forthcoming president, has equally contributed to Nintendo over the years. I am sure she will continue our mission of spreading joy, just as Doug has done."
