Marvel's Wolverine, developed by Insomniac Games, is expected to be released in Fall 2026 for the PlayStation 5. This announcement was made during the recent PlayStation State of Play event, where the studio also presented a gameplay trailer highlighting Wolverine's darker and more intense nature.

Insomniac expressed their excitement in a blog post, stating, "While we're venturing into new territory with Wolverine, our commitment to portraying heroes overcoming tremendous challenges remains unwavering. Our vision is to create the definitive Wolverine experience featuring dynamic and aggressive combat, thrilling set pieces, comprehensive accessibility options, and an engrossing narrative that captures the essence of this iconic comic book character."

Initially announced in 2021, Insomniac's Wolverine faced challenges when a ransomware hack in 2023 led to leaks of several titles, including Wolverine. In the following year, changes in the creative team were confirmed by Sony. Brian Horton, the original creative director, was succeeded by Marcus Smith, known for his work on Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Miles Morales, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Horton transitioned to Xbox as the creative director for The Initiative's Perfect Dark, which was ultimately canceled in early 2025 after extensive layoffs at Xbox and the shutdown of The Initiative. Additionally, the game's directorship saw a change from Cameron Christian to Mike Daly, with Christian staying within the company in a new capacity.
