The Nintendo Switch 2 has been honored with a special industry award at the Japan Game Awards

The Japan Game Awards honored the Nintendo Switch 2 with the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI) during the ceremony held on September 23, 2025, in Tokyo. This event was organized by the Japanese Computer Entertainment Suppliers' Association (CESA), preceding the Tokyo Game Show which kicked off on September 25, 2025.

Information from the official website notes that the METI award is presented to individuals or products contributing to the gaming industry's growth through outstanding innovations, technologies, or creative expressions. The Switch 2 was specifically celebrated for advancing the Japanese console gaming sector.

Additionally, the Grand Award for the highest game accolade was secured by Metaphor: ReFantazio, a joint production of Atlus and Sega. This JRPG surpassed other notable contenders such as Elden Ring Nightreign, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, each of which received Awards for Excellence.

The Game Designers Award was granted to Odd Meter's adventure game Indika, while the Movement Award went to Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.

Furthermore, Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 gained the Breakthrough Award after achieving one million sales in three days, as reported in a news brief. A Special Award was also bestowed upon Sony's PlayStation Store.
