The Nintendo Switch 2 has been honored with a prestigious industry accolade at the Japan Game Awards

At the Japan Game Awards this year, the Nintendo Switch 2 was honored with the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI).

The Japanese Computer Entertainment Suppliers' Association (CESA) organized the ceremony which was held in Tokyo on September 23, 2025, shortly before the Tokyo Game Show commenced on September 25, 2025.

As noted on the official website, the METI award is bestowed upon entities that have significantly advanced the video game industry, either by creating outstanding products or by broadening the industry's scope through innovative expression and technology.

This acknowledgment was given to the Switch 2 for its role in advancing the Japanese console gaming sector.

Additionally, the event saw Metaphor: ReFantazio capturing the Grand Award, the most prestigious game accolade of the show.

The JRPG by Atlus and Sega triumphed over 10 other titles to secure the award, surpassing games such as Elden Ring Nightreign, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, each of which received Awards for Excellence.

Award recipients also included Odd Meter's third-person adventure, Indika, which was honored with the Game Designers Award, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, which was recognized with the Movement Award.

Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 earned the Breakthrough Award after selling one million copies within three days, as stated in a report. Sony's PlayStation Store was also a recipient of a Special Award.
