The release of the Switch 2 port for Borderlands 4 has been postponed, as developers require more time for "additional development and polish"
Gearbox Software has announced an indefinite postponement of Borderlands 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Originally scheduled for release on October 3, the developers cited the need for further refinement to ensure the highest quality experience for players.
The company emphasized the difficulty of reaching this decision via social media, expressing a desire to synchronize this release with a planned cross-save feature, deemed crucial by the developers.
Plans for the game's updated release schedule will be communicated once Gearbox completes its adjustments. Automatic cancellation of digital pre-orders on the Switch 2 will commence on September 26, though players may also opt to cancel manually through the Nintendo eShop. Those with physical pre-orders are advised to reach out to their respective retailers.
Since Borderlands 4's release on September 12, there have been numerous criticisms from PC users regarding technical performance, which has resulted in mixed reviews on Steam. Performance issues, optimization challenges, and crashes are among the concerns noted by players.
In response to these grievances, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford described the game's performance as "pretty damn optimal" and advised players to make adjustments within the game settings to suit their preferences.
Pitchford further clarified in a series of posts that players should not expect mid-range PC configurations to achieve the highest frame rate, ultra features, and top resolution all at once, suggesting instead that performance can be optimized by prioritizing certain features.
Despite these challenges, the game has attracted over 2.5 million players since its launch, with revenue surpassing $150 million, according to figures provided by Alinea Analytics.
