The Polish studio PixelAnt Games is no longer owned by Sumo Group
PixelAnt Games, which participated in the development of Mortal Kombat 1, Still Wakes The Deep, and numerous other games, has become an independent studio. It had been part of the British holding company Sumo Group since the summer of 2021.
PixelAnt Games announced this on LinkedIn. The terms of its departure from the parent company were not disclosed in the studio's statement. It is only noted that the Czech branch of PixelAnt Games remains with Sumo Group. Whether it will change its name from PixelAnt Games Czech Republic to something else is also not specified.
As an independent entity, PixelAnt Games will adjust its business strategy. It now intends to focus more on developing its own games.
Recall that in July, The Chinese Room also announced its departure from Sumo Group. In a statement to the media, it expressed the opinion that in the near future, Sumo Group might divest several studios, selling them along with the Sumo Digital division.
