Production for Amazon's adaptation of Tomb Raider is set to commence in January 2026, with Sophie Turner portraying the role of Lara Croft
The filming of Amazon's Tomb Raider television series is slated to commence on January 19, 2026, with Sophie Turner cast as Lara Croft.
According to Variety, the adaptation is led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, in collaboration with Chad Hodge, known for creating Wayward Pines. Waller-Bridge will take on the roles of creator, writer, and executive producer.
Director Jonathan van Tulleken, recognized for his work on Shōgun, will contribute as both a director and executive producer for the series.
"I'm thrilled to announce Sophie Turner as our Lara Croft, with such an amazing team behind the project," expressed Waller-Bridge.
"Producing a series of this magnitude featuring a beloved character is a rare opportunity. Our team shares an intense passion for Lara, and they embody her spirit of boldness and humor."
Turner commented: "I'm extremely excited to bring Lara Croft to life. She is an iconic figure who holds significance for many, and I am committed to the role.
"Following the powerful performances of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander is a challenge, but with Phoebe guiding us, we are all in capable hands, including Lara."
Amazon MGM Studios approved the series under Waller-Bridge's guidance in May 2024. Crystal Dynamics is involved as a producer and executive producer, along with Story Kitchen and Wells Street Productions, which is associated with Waller-Bridge.
