Roblox has teamed up with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) to update its system of maturity labels with global age rating standards.

Using well-known rating bodies like the ESRB in the U.S., GRAC in South Korea, USK in Germany, and PEGI in parts of Europe including the U.K., experiences will receive new ratings.

"By offering widely recognized and reliable ratings, we aim to assist parents across countries in managing their family's use of Roblox," remarked IARC chairperson and ESRB president Patricia Vance.

The unified process will enable creators on Roblox to obtain ratings more easily and inform parents about potential content before gameplay begins.

By the end of 2025, Roblox plans to extend its system for age verification in communication to all users, building on its July announcement about investing in facial age estimation technology.

Roblox chief safety officer Matt Kaufman explained that combining facial age estimation, ID verification, and confirmed parental approval will enhance age verification beyond merely what is input when an account is created.

"New features to limit interaction between adults and minors will also be introduced as part of this expansion," Kaufman added.

In April, the platform introduced a "Sensitive Issues" descriptor for experiences focusing on sensitive topics, preventing access for players under 13 without parental consent.

Roblox has also rolled out multiple safety and parental control updates in the past year.

These initiatives allow parents remote access to account management, include content labels, strengthen moderation, and limit access to social areas and user-generated content.
