Roblox has announced a new partnership with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) to overhaul its existing maturity labels. The platform will now utilize global rating systems like the ESRB in the U.S., GRAC in South Korea, USK in Germany, and PEGI in Europe and the UK.

Patricia Vance, IARC chair and ESRB president, highlighted the importance of trusted ratings for families worldwide who engage with Roblox. This collaboration aims to simplify the process for developers on Roblox to acquire age and content ratings while also ensuring parents are informed about what their children might encounter in the platform.

The platform plans to broaden age estimation measures for communication by late 2025, building on its July announcement regarding investment in facial age estimation technology. According to Matt Kaufman, the chief safety officer at Roblox, the combination of facial age estimation, ID verification, and verified parental consent will offer a more reliable age assessment than user-input information at sign-up. This enhancement will also debut new measures to limit interactions between adults and minors.

Earlier, in April, Roblox had initiated a "Sensitive Issues" content tag for experiences that focus on sensitive social, political, or religious topics. This tag ensures experiences are restricted for users below 13, with parental controls enabling access decisions.

In response to safety concerns, Roblox enhanced its safety systems and parental controls last year, introducing features that let parents monitor and manage their child's account remotely, applied content labels on experiences, boosted moderation efforts, and restricted under-13 access to specific social features and content creation activities.
