Media: Take-Two attempted to acquire the remake of Perfect Dark, but the deal fell through

Two months ago, as part of widespread layoffs within its gaming division, Microsoft closed The Initiative studio and canceled its remake of Perfect Dark. According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, the game still had a chance to be saved — Take-Two Interactive showed interest in it.

According to Schreier, Take-Two wanted to purchase the Perfect Dark remake from Microsoft, finance its further development, and publish it. The deal was reportedly close to being finalized but fell through at the last minute.

It is reported that the parties couldn’t agree on long-term rights to the franchise.

Schreier's sources added that The Initiative’s leaders were seeking a new partner until the end of the summer. Along with colleagues from Crystal Dynamics, who also participated in the remake's development, they talked not only with Take-Two but also with several other companies. The names of other potential buyers have not been disclosed.

Representatives from Microsoft, Take-Two, and Embracer Group — the parent company of Crystal Dynamics — declined to comment on Schreier’s source information.
