Nintendo has rebranded its transmedia division, changing its name from Warpstar to Nintendo Stars
Nintendo has announced a name change for its transmedia arm, previously known as Warpstar Inc., which has now been renamed Nintendo Stars.
The division, originally founded as a fully owned subsidiary last April to oversee the company's film, television, and other transmedia ventures, is undergoing changes. A statement on Nintendo Japan's official site explains the shift as part of a broader strategy to enhance the "ancillary use" of its film properties, now also including live events and merchandise through various project developments and licensing activities.
The message from Nintendo noted, "By implementing and licensing various ancillary uses in films, Nintendo Stars Inc. aims to familiarize people around the world with Nintendo IP and provide new ways to experience it," as highlighted by GameDeveloper.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that Nintendo Stars plans to continue the progression of the Kirby franchise by "utilizing the know-how cultivated in this business." The strategy includes broadening access to Nintendo IP globally by working with international partners to reinforce connections between Nintendo and consumers.
The release also updated stakeholders about upcoming film projects: a new animated movie inspired by Super Mario Bros. is set to premiere on April 3, 2026, and a live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda is expected to launch on May 7, 2027, as revealed by GamesIndustry.
