Square Enix has announced the discontinuation of its games, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars, in Japan.

Both titles, initially launched in 2015, were approaching their ten-year marks, with anniversaries on October 22 and October 15. However, the games are set to be terminated by noon on Friday, October 31, likely following Japan Standard Time.

Through official statements on social media (references thanks to PocketGamer), Square Enix expressed appreciation to its players, saying, "We sincerely thank everyone who has played with us for such a long time."

The company issued an apology to Dragon Quest of the Stars users for the abrupt news, stating, "Having launched on Thursday, October 15, 2015, we endeavored hard to deliver exemplary service. Nonetheless, we've realized maintaining satisfactory service for our users in the future is untenable, prompting the decision to cease operations."

Purchasing options within both mobile applications have now been disabled.

Additionally, Square Enix's recent financial report for the quarter ending June 30, 2025, highlighted a decrease in net sales and profit from the prior year. Its Digital Entertainment division, encompassing video games, saw a 25% revenue dip due to underperformance by new game releases.
