Square Enix closes two mobile games that have been available for a decade

Square Enix has announced the closure of its games, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars, within Japan.

The games, which debuted in 2015, were approaching their tenth anniversaries on October 22 and October 15, respectively. However, they are slated to cease operations at noon on Friday, October 31, according to Japan Standard Time.

In announcements shared on the official social media channels for each game (as reported by PocketGamer), Square Enix expressed gratitude to the players for their longstanding support.

The company also apologized to its dedicated players for the abrupt news, stating that despite continuous efforts to enhance the service since their respective launches in October 2015, it would become challenging to maintain a satisfactory service level, prompting the decision to end the service.

Players can no longer make in-app purchases for both mobile titles.

According to its recent financial report for the quarter ending June 30, 2025, Square Enix has faced decreased net sales and profits compared to the previous year's period. Specifically, the firm's Digital Entertainment segment, including video games, saw a 25% revenue decline, attributed to lower sales from new releases.
