Epic Games opposed the trademark "EPIDGames"
The South Korean studio Epid Games recently applied to register the trademark "EPIDGames" in several countries outside of its homeland. Noticing this, Epic Games filed an objection with the registration authorities.

According to the company, the trademark "EPIDGames" is too similar to its own trademark "Epic Games," which could lead to confusion.
During a press interaction at Unreal Fest Seoul 2025, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney stated that despite everything, his company does not plan to take legal action against Epid Games. They just expressed their position to the registrars and hope that they will heed the arguments.
Sweeney reminded that earlier, the developers of Fortnite attempted to prevent Epid Games from registering the trademark in South Korea, also by filing an objection with the registrars. The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) did not support the complaint and added the trademark to the register. Sweeney acknowledged that while the words "Epic" and "Epid" sound similar in English, the difference is more noticeable in Korean transcription. Partly for this reason, Epic Games did not contest KIPO and did not take the matter to court at that time.
