In China, Tencent is being sued over matchmaking in Honor of Kings

A Chinese lawyer, Sun Qianhe (孙千和), believes that the player selection system in Honor of Kings operates unfairly: in his opinion, it intentionally adds weaker teammates to teams periodically to lower the win rate. He is attempting to defend his position in court against Tencent.

Sun is demanding Tencent to disclose the workings of the matchmaking algorithm. In his lawsuit, he stated that by concealing it, the company is violating consumer rights protection laws.

According to the GameLook portal, a court hearing on the case took place on August 12 in Shenzhen. During the hearing, Tencent denied the accusation of unfair matchmaking in Honor of Kings and asserted that the specifics of the algorithm are its trade secret. Moreover, the company believes that disclosing this would only harm users. According to Tencent, if all the technical aspects of the matchmaking become publicly known, they could be exploited by cheaters and other dishonest players.

No decision has been made by the court yet. Shortly before the hearing, Sun told the media that in case of a loss, he intends to file an appeal.
