Firestoke is shutting down after depleting its financial resources
Firestoke, an independent games publisher based in Scotland, is in the final stages of shuttering its operations, as confirmed by CEO Paul Farley.
On August 6, Farley used LinkedIn to express his distress over the decision to close the company, which was responsible for titles such as Falling Out, Bish Bash Bots, and It's Only Money.
Farley disclosed that although the company was close to reaching profitability, financial challenges in securing necessary funding proved insurmountable. He admitted that without achieving a major game hit, continuing their business path was not feasible.
Farley emphasized that no regrets exist regarding the publisher’s journey, noting their success in selecting engaging and unique games, forming a skilled team, and establishing effective processes. The company received accolades and attracted players globally but couldn’t achieve the breakthrough needed to advance in the competitive market.
The CEO expressed significant disappointment and gratitude towards the team for their dedication and ingenuity over the last four years. The priority now lies in finding a new home for Firestoke’s game portfolio and the developers behind those projects, with Farley mentioning that this process is advancing positively and updates will be forthcoming.
He further stated his commitment to handling the company's closure with the principles of transparency, honesty, and fairness intact.
Firestoke joins a list of game publishers that have ceased operations recently, alongside companies like Merge Games and Humble Games, which have either closed or restructured.
Despite these closures, the industry has also seen the emergence of new independent publishers this year, such as Artex, Lyrical Games, and The CoLab.
