Playgama: In the first half of 2025, 15,000 browser games were released — more than in 2021, 2022, and 2023 combined
The number of browser games worldwide is rapidly increasing, according to a study by the Playgama platform. Experts have calculated that over 15,000 new projects were released between January and June 2025. This is the best result in at least the last four years.
For comparison, in the first half of 2024, developers released 2.7 times fewer browser games. In the first half of 2023, the number was 4.9 times fewer.
Moreover, Playgama notes that even if you combine all the browser game releases from 2021, 2022, and 2023, it still wouldn't reach the current level.
Researchers also pointed out that the most popular engine on the web right now is Unity. It was used in 55% of the browser games released in the first half of 2025. The second place goes to Construct with a share of 16.4%. Just a year ago, Construct's share was slightly lower at 13.7%.
Along with Unity and Construct, the list of the most frequently used engines includes Cocos (8.1%), Phaser (7.1%), LayaAir (5.2%), PlayCanvas (2.1%), Defold (1.8%), GDevelop (0.57%), and GameMaker (0.51%).
