One month post-launch, Rematch has reached a player base of five million

Just a month following its debut, Sloclap's multiplayer football game, Rematch, has amassed five million unique players.
The creators of the 2022 title Sifu, Sloclap announced this achievement in a post on X dated July 21, 2025. The post stated, "One month after launch, @PlayRematch has reached 5 million unique players! We’ll keep doing our best to make Rematch better. Thank you again for your support all along the way!"
Launched on June 19, 2025, on platforms including PC, Xbox Series X/S (with Xbox Game Pass), and PS5, Rematch presents a novel approach to a typically EA Sports FC-dominated genre.
Featuring rapid 5v5 gameplay coupled with a third-person view, Rematch emphasizes player skill, team strategies, and ball control. A developer update from July 18 noted that Rematch is "not just a football game," but in essence, "a samurai game."
The unique gameplay format has resonated well with players, attracting over 1.3 million participants for its beta in April, and reaching a million players within a day of its June launch.
Per recent updates from Sloclap, their primary aim is addressing "ongoing issues" and implementing new features. They plan to introduce crossplay and player reporting within six to eight weeks, with a new ranked queue expected in a "couple of months."
In April, GamesIndustry.biz interviewed Rhys Elliott, Head of Market Analysis at Alinea Analytics. Elliott stated, "Rematch is the best of both worlds here. It is a fresh new take on a relatively untapped genre, based on the world's most popular sport, that has come along at a time when players are beginning to get frustrated with the market leader, EA's FC."
