The studio developing Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 has become independent
Another team has left the Sumo Group. The studio The Chinese Room has announced its departure from the company.
Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2
The Chinese Room was acquired by its own management with the support of the venture firm Hiro Capital. The cost of the deal has not been disclosed. It is worth noting that in 2018, Sumo Group paid £2.2 million (approximately $2.96 million at the current exchange rate) for the developers.
The Chinese Room speculates that there is a significant possibility that Sumo Group might soon sell the entire Sumo Digital division, which owns Red Kite Games, Lab42, PixelAnt Games, Atomhawk, and several other studios. The company itself has not reported such plans, but it is known that back in February it shifted its business priorities, moving away from developing its own games in favor of providing outsourcing services.
Currently, The Chinese Room is preparing to release Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2, and is also working on two unannounced games based on new IPs.
