Elden Ring Nightreign was the best-selling game in May in the United States, and Star Wars: Battlefront II returned to the top 20
With a slight delay, analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana shared data on the state of the American gaming market in May.

- In May, U.S. residents spent a total of $4.05 billion on video games, gaming hardware, and accessories. This is only a 1% increase compared to the previous year.
- The majority of spending was on games — $3.72 billion (+2%). This was followed by hardware spending ($172 million, -13%), and lastly, spending on accessories ($154 million, -6%).
- Among paid games, Elden Ring Nightreign was the top bestseller in the U.S. in May. It ranked first in overall sales as well as in the top charts for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox separately.
- Mario Kart 8 led the charts for Nintendo.
- A surge in interest in Star Wars: Battlefront II helped the shooter climb to 12th place in the overall sales ranking. In the PC games chart, it even secured fifth place.
- The PlayStation 5 once again outperformed other consoles in both unit and dollar sales. Notably, while its dollar sales grew by 3%, those of the Xbox Series dropped by 30%, and the first Nintendo Switch saw a decline of 44% ahead of the release of the second console (which launched on June 5).
