The corporation Apple has decided to appeal the €500 million fine imposed by the European Commission in April for restricting app developers in the App Store. The company has filed the corresponding appeal.

Apple will attempt to overturn a €500 million fine in the EU

In the complaint, Apple called the fine “unprecedented.” Additionally, the company believes the actions of the regulator far exceeded legal boundaries.

“The European Commission is telling us how to manage the App Store. It imposes business conditions that are unclear to developers and harmful to users. We have complied with the requirements to avoid punitive daily fines, and we will share this fact with the court,” Apple said in a statement to the media.

To recap, the European Commission considered that Apple does not allow developers to fully inform App Store users about the possibility of making purchases outside the store. By doing so, the corporation violates the Digital Markets Act.

At the end of June, Apple updated the App Store rules in the EU. Among other changes, it decided to gradually eliminate the fee for critical technology (CTF) in favor of other commissions.
