"Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" has been renewed for a second season
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will have a second season. The new season, comprising ten episodes, is in progress at Netflix, produced alongside Studio Trigger, known for their work on the original series. Unlike the previous season, this installment will feature a fresh narrative.
Kai Ikarashi will step into the role of director for the first time, collaborating with Masahiko Otsuka and head character designer Kanno Ichigo. Bartosz Sztybor, the series' showrunner, story writer, and producer, expressed enthusiasm about working with Studio Trigger again, aiming to present a raw tale of redemption and revenge, unlike their prior projects.
During a panel at the 2025 Anime Expo in Los Angeles, as reported by The Verge, Sztybor described the upcoming series as "sadder, darker, more bloody, and rawer" than its predecessor.
Originally, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was conceived as a standalone piece. Its initial release garnered much praise from critics, significantly boosting CD Projekt's earnings in Q3 of 2022.
The success of the show also led to a surge in Cyberpunk 2077's popularity, with the game reaching one million daily players post-release. An update inspired by Edgerunners was introduced for players, both new and old.
Back then, CD Projekt's joint CEO Michał Nowakowski affirmed the company's dedication to expanding the Cyberpunk franchise. "We are deeply invested in developing this brand, eager to extend it with new stories, experiences, and content across various formats," Nowakowski stated.
