Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime series by CD Projekt Red, will return for a second season. The new season, produced by Netflix and Studio Trigger, will present a fresh narrative unlike the first.

The series enters production with Kai Ikarashi stepping in as director for the first time in his career. He will be collaborating with Masahiko Otsuka and lead character designer Kanno Ichigo.

Bartosz Sztybor, who serves as showrunner, story writer, and producer, expressed enthusiasm for working again with Studio Trigger, aiming to deliver a unique story of redemption and vengeance.

During a panel discussion at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles, Szytbor shared that the upcoming season will feature a narrative that is "sadder, darker, more bloody, and more raw," as reported by The Verge.

Initially conceived as a standalone series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was praised critically and significantly contributed to CD Projekt's third-quarter earnings in 2022.

The anime also spurred a surge in popularity for Cyberpunk 2077, driving up to one million daily players post-release. A themed update was incorporated into the game to appeal to both old and new players, as described in a GamesIndustry article.

Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt, emphasized their commitment to expanding the Cyberpunk universe, stating their intention to create new stories and experiences beyond just video games.
