Electronic Arts has announced that it will be discontinuing its game Anthem in January 2026

Anthem will go offline permanently on January 12, 2026, as confirmed by Electronic Arts.
According to a statement on EA’s website, the game will remain available for online play until that time. Though purchasing new in-game currency is no longer possible, players can utilize existing balances until servers are shut down.
Anthem owners will have the ability to download and play the game until the specified closure date. It will be withdrawn from the EA Play subscription service on August 15, 2025.
While EA didn't state why the game is being discontinued, they assured the public that no job cuts had resulted from this decision.
Initially released in February 2019, Anthem faced difficulties from the outset. Despite predicting sales of six million in the first six weeks, EA's fiscal fourth quarter of 2019 reflected significant drops in both revenue and net income, as documented in reports at the time.
Andrew Wilson, EA's CEO, remarked on the game's challenging launch, acknowledging that initial expectations weren't met.
"Intellectual property spans generations, typically over seven to ten-year cycles," Wilson noted. "For Anthem, despite the less-than-ideal beginning, I believe our team can create something extraordinary because they've shown they have the capability."
