Media: Rostelecom is considering creating an equivalent to VK Play
Another domestic gaming store may emerge in Russia. According to "Kommersant," citing sources, "Rostelecom" is currently considering the possibility of launching its own platform.
It is assumed that if "Rostelecom" does create a store, it will focus primarily on Russian games based on the "Aurora" operating system.
"Essentially, 'Rostelecom' is developing an analog to VK Play, but it is still far from being like VK's product. At the very least, the 'Aurora' OS lacks the graphic engines needed to develop full-fledged modern releases," noted one of the newspaper's sources.
"Rostelecom" has not commented on the rumors.
In the past, "Rostelecom" has already attempted to enter the gaming store market. In 2015, the company opened a platform for selling games, but it ceased to exist two years later. In 2019, "Rostelecom" made another attempt by launching "Gaming Market"—currently, it mainly offers passes and in-game currency for Genshin Impact, PUBG, Apex Legends, and other free-to-play games, as well as a catalog of browser games.
