Since the beginning of the year, gaming companies have laid off 3,000 people — significantly fewer than during the same period in 2023 and 2024
Recently, the gaming industry has once again been hit by reports of mass layoffs. In June alone, People Can Fly, Build A Rocket Boy, and around ten other companies announced cuts. We looked at data from Game Industry Layoffs to assess the scale for the first half of the year.

Important: Game Industry Layoffs sources its figures from company announcements and media reports. In some cases, the number of laid-off employees is not disclosed, resulting in underreported data.
According to the portal's figures, a total of 3,274 specialists lost their jobs over six months. January was the worst month, with 776 layoffs.
Here is the current top 10 list of gaming companies with the largest layoffs in 2025, according to Game Industry Layoffs:
1. Electronic Arts — 475 people;
2. Tencent — 330 people;
3. Warner Bros. Games — 252 people;
4. Playtika — 210 people;
5. AppLovin — 186 people;
6. Ubisoft — 185 people;
7. Embracer Group — 132 people;
8. People Can Fly — 120 people;
9. Enad Global 7 — 107 people;
10. Meta* (Reality Labs) — 100 people.
Compared to 2024 and 2023, this is relatively small. In the first six months of last year, 11,252 people were laid off, and during the same period in 2023 — 5,249 people.
The number of laid-off employees is expected to rise in the coming days. According to rumors, Microsoft might part ways with thousands of Xbox employees as soon as tomorrow.
