VTsIOM: Russians have heard about domestic games, but currently play them infrequently
59% of surveyed Russian gamers have not played games made by domestic developers in the past two to three years. Another 16% were unsure. This is according to a recent survey by VCIOM on gaming topics.
"Rusy vs Lizards 2"
A total of 1,601 Russian residents participated in the VCIOM survey. 77% of them have gaming experience.
It should be noted right away that although VCIOM refers to the games listed in the study as Russian, not all of them truly are. Some have only a tenuous connection to Russia. In theory, they could be designated as games from studios with Russian roots.
The most popular game mentioned in the survey is Atomic Heart, with 6% of the VCIOM gamers having played it. The top list also includes Warface (2%), World of Tanks (2%), Tiny Bunny (2%), and "Endless Summer" (2%).
In general, 59% of all respondents, not just gamers, have heard about Russian games or games that could at least be conditionally classified as Russian. Among these, Atomic Heart and Warface are the most recognized, known by 30% of respondents. Additionally, many are aware of the existence of games like "Truckers" (29%), "Smuta" (24%), "Corsairs" (20%), Heroes of Might & Magic V (18%), "Rusy vs Lizards" (17%), "Petka and Vasily Ivanovich Save the Galaxy" (17%), Escape from Tarkov (14%), Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (13%), and others.
As VCIOM aptly noted, Russians under the age of 35 are mainly familiar with modern games, while older respondents are more familiar with games from the 2000s.
