The creators of Honkai: Star Rail intend to sue a streamer for $150,000 due to a character leak

The Chinese company miHoYo has initiated another legal proceeding. It has filed a complaint in the California district court against a streamer who prematurely showcased the new character from Honkai: Star Rail.

In the lawsuit, miHoYo states that streamer Alfredo Lopez broadcasted the game’s walkthrough on a Discord channel with 12,000 subscribers. During the stream, he showcased gameplay featuring Castoria, who at the time had not yet been officially introduced in Honkai: Star Rail. According to the developers, Lopez thereby violated miHoYo’s copyrights.

Additionally, miHoYo claimed that Lopez spoiled the players’ experience by not allowing them to properly anticipate the character’s release.

Now, miHoYo is demanding Lopez pay $150,000 in compensation.

miHoYo has extensive experience in such disputes. Earlier this year, it reported that since 2022, it has held over 200 leakers accountable. According to Game Daily’s calculations, the company has filed more than 600 lawsuits over the past nine years.
