The Korean Game Association called the potential deal between Tencent and Nexon a threat to national security
Last week, Bloomberg reported that Tencent is allegedly in talks to acquire the Korean holding company Nexon. According to the Korea Game Society, if the deal goes through, it will harm the development of South Korea.

The association published a letter criticizing Tencent. It pointed out that the Chinese giant already holds stakes in many major Korean gaming companies: Shift Up (35%), Netmarble (17.5%), Krafton (13.6%), and others.
“Tencent’s attempt to acquire Nexon is not just a business transaction. It is a strategic move to establish dominance in one of the most crucial industries in South Korea. This is a matter of national security, and the government should not ignore it under the guise of neutrality,” stated the Korea Game Society's declaration.
Neither Tencent nor Nexon has commented on the information from Bloomberg's sources. Therefore, details about the potential deal remain speculative.
