The creators of Honkai: Star Rail intend to sue a streamer for $150,000 over the leak of a character
The Chinese company miHoYo has initiated another legal proceeding. It has filed a complaint in a California district court against a streamer who prematurely revealed a new heroine from Honkai: Star Rail.
Honkai: Star Rail
The lawsuit by miHoYo alleges that streamer Alfredo Lopez broadcasted gameplay of the game on a Discord channel with 12,000 subscribers. During the stream, he showcased gameplay featuring Castoria, who had not been officially released in Honkai: Star Rail at that time. The developers believe that Lopez thereby infringed on miHoYo's copyrights.
Additionally, miHoYo stated that Lopez ruined the experience for players by not allowing them the proper anticipation for the heroine's release.
miHoYo is now demanding that Lopez pay $150,000 as compensation.
miHoYo has extensive experience in such proceedings. Earlier this year, it reported that since 2022, it has held more than 200 leakers accountable. According to calculations by the Game Daily portal, the company has filed over 600 lawsuits in the past nine years.
