The mobile Epic Games Store has been downloaded 40 million times, and it will soon be available on iOS in three more countries
Epic Games held the State of Unreal 2025 presentation. Among other topics, the company focused on its game store. Specifically, it shared that since the launch in August 2024, the mobile version of the Epic Games Store has garnered 40 million downloads worldwide.
This is significantly less than what Epic Games initially expected. Last summer, the company forecasted that by January 2025, the mobile store would have 100 million downloads. When they failed to reach this milestone, they blamed Google's and Apple's security policies—as both on Android and iOS, a warning about potential harmful content appears when attempting to download the mobile Epic Games Store, which deters users.
Now, Epic Games hopes to see 70 million downloads of the mobile Epic Games Store by the end of 2025.
Additionally, Epic Games announced that within the year, the iOS version of the Epic Games Store will become available in Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Unlike the Android version, it is currently only distributed in the European Union countries.
During the presentation, the company reminded that starting June 1st, Epic Games Store, both on mobile devices and PCs, will no longer charge commission on games that earned less than a million dollars per year. Once a game surpasses the million-dollar mark, it will be subject to the standard 12% commission. Every year, the calculation starts anew.
In conclusion, Epic Games reported that over six and a half years, it has paid more than $2.1 billion to developers and publishers as part of the Epic Games Store partner program. No additional details on these payments were provided.
