GAME, a UK retailer, has had to cancel a portion of the pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2
A prominent UK retailer, GAME, has announced the cancellation of a number of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. Although the retailer, part of the Frasers Group owned by Sports Direct, did not offer specific reasons or the number of orders affected, it expressed its apologies in a public statement released online, where comments in response were restricted.
The announcement titled "Cancelled Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders" included an apology that reads: "We sincerely apologize for the recent cancellation of some Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. We understand how disappointing this is, especially for those who have been eagerly awaiting their order."
Efforts are reportedly underway to restore as many of the impacted pre-orders as possible. Affected customers have been assured that GAME is actively working on solutions and that they will receive further communication regarding updates and next steps. However, no specific timeline was provided for the reinstatement of orders.
Earlier this year, GAME ceased its pre-owned business, halted sales of physical currency cards, and discontinued new release in-store pre-orders. Additionally, there were reports of a significant reduction in head office staff at the close of the preceding year, exacerbating the challenges faced by the retailer. Recent months have seen GAME reportedly struggle with fulfilling timely online pre-orders for major titles, including issues with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 deliveries. The retailer's agreement for exclusive merchandise, such as the steelbook case for the Silent Hill 2 Remake in the UK, compels some customers to rely on them despite these issues.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be launched globally on June 5. Nintendo has conveyed its dedication to ensuring product accessibility in challenging market conditions, influenced by US tariffs. President of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, confirmed that the Switch 2 will maintain its price at ¥49,980/$499.99/£395.99, unaffected by these tariffs.
