Square Enix and the developers of the canceled Front Mission 2089: Borderscape have settled a dispute over the theft of assets

Square Enix has agreed to peacefully settle a dispute with the publisher Ten Tree and the studio BlackJack Studio: in March, it accused them of plagiarism and asset theft.

Mecharashi

Let us recall that BlackJack Studio is a former contractor of Square Enix. From 2019 to 2022, they worked on the mobile game Front Mission 2089: Borderscape for the company, which was later decided to be canceled. Everything was going well until last year when the studio, in collaboration with Ten Tree, released a game in Asia called Mecharashi. Square Enix was very displeased with this new release. According to them, some of the assets in Mecharashi were simply taken from Front Mission 2089: Borderscape, thereby infringing on Square Enix's copyrights.

The terms of the agreement between the parties remain unknown. Previously, Square Enix requested the court to award them $150,000 in compensation and also demanded that Ten Tree and BlackJack Studio remove Mecharashi from stores.

According to a statement on Ten Tree's website, the game will remain in stores. As suggested by the portal Automaton Media, the accused may have made concessions and agreed to replace the disputed assets.
