Campfire Cabal makes a comeback after closure by Embracer

Campfire Cabal, a division of THQ Nordic, has made a comeback after its closure in 2023. Despite being part of Embracer's organizational restructuring, the studio revealed through a blog post that it never actually ceased operations.

The post stated, "We are finally ready to reveal that Campfire Cabal was never shut down." It also noted that although they had to part with many team members, a smaller group persisted with the project initiated in 2022.

The new game, a continuation of the Expeditions series, has been approved for expansion and is set to enter full production by the end of March 2025. Campfire Cabal also stated that it managed to update Expeditions: Rome in 2024, despite a lack of communication following its supposed closure.

The studio addressed the challenges faced in the gaming industry over the past few years, citing a lack of investment, numerous studio closures, job losses, and project cancellations. They expressed gratitude towards those within their network who helped keep the studio going through these challenging times.

THQ Nordic initially established Campfire Cabal in September 2022 with a team consisting of experienced members from the Expeditions franchise. By August 2023, Embracer instructed THQ Nordic to close the studio due to their restructuring plan.

In a statement on LinkedIn, the studio declared their ongoing efforts to resolve the situation, emphasizing the continued support of THQ Nordic. They concluded by highlighting the determination and teamwork of their employees, which kept the project alive.
