Todd Green has been promoted to president of King, succeeding Tjodolf Sommestad, who is retiring from the role after a tenure of almost 14 years with the gaming company.

Sommestad ascended to the presidency in 2022, and he played a pivotal role during Microsoft's acquisition of King in 2023. With this transition completed, Sommestad chose to step away from the gaming sector to dedicate more time to his family.

"My journey at King has been fantastic. Leading as president over the last few years has been an honor," Sommestad stated. "Post-transition, I've decided it's time for a break and to focus on familial commitments."

He expressed enthusiasm about King's future under Green's guidance, praising Green as a skilled leader capable of driving the company's franchises forward.

Green is set to take charge as president on June 1, 2025. His career at King spans 12 years, having started as a business performance manager in 2013 and advancing to serve as the general manager of the Candy Crush franchise before his recent appointment.

"Embarking on this new phase as King's president is exhilarating," Green said. "Over my 12 years here, I've seen firsthand our capacity for growth and innovation, enchanting millions of players globally.

"I'm grateful to Tjodolf for his unwavering leadership and support at King. The potential is immense with our skilled teams, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunities on the horizon."

Matt Booty, Xbox's president of game content and studios, noted: "Todd's extensive expertise and success leading major franchises like Candy Crush make him an ideal choice as King's new president. We are all eager to work with him. A sincere thank you to Tjodolf for his substantial contributions and leadership at King."
