Electronic Arts is advocating for employees to return to the office as it reduces remote work options

Electronic Arts (EA) has informed its workforce about a shift towards a hybrid working model, scaling back options for remote work to emphasize office presence. Employees will need to be in the office at least three days a week, based on a recent company-wide email from CEO Andrew Wilson as reported by IGN.
The CEO emphasized that being physically present in the office fosters a dynamic environment that enhances creativity and innovation, potentially leading to unanticipated breakthroughs and unique player experiences.
Laura Miele, EA Entertainment’s president, clarified that these adjustments won't happen overnight. Employees will have a minimum of 12 weeks to transition, with the timeline differing across various locations.
The email noted a 30-mile, or 48-kilometer, radius from office locations. Employees residing within this distance are to adopt the hybrid model, while those outside will be classified as remote unless their role specifically requires them on site or in a hybrid capacity.
For any exceptions to this work model and potential future remote roles, prior approval from the CEO or a designated representative is necessary.
GamesIndustry.biz has sought confirmation from EA regarding the authenticity of the email, with indications that employees in the UK have received similar notifications.
The trend of reducing remote work, which gained popularity during the pandemic, is seen across the gaming industry. Companies like Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft Montreal, and Rockstar Games have also shifted towards hybrid or full in-office operations recently.
Notably, EA recently announced the reduction of approximately 300 positions across various sectors as part of its strategy to enhance future growth.
