Takahisa Taura has established a new game development company after parting ways with PlatinumGames.

According to Video Games Chronicle, the creator behind Astral Chain and designer for Nier Automata is now among the founders of Eel Game Studio. This update was confirmed in a translation by journalist Genki from the latest Famitsu issue.

Taura expressed his role among the initial members of the studio but refrained from divulging the details of their current projects.

Back in September 2023, Hideki Kamiya, who helped to establish PlatinumGames, declared his departure from the team. Kamiya was also part of Capcom's Clover Studio until its termination in 2006.

In December of the previous year, Kamiya announced his return to Capcom, assuming leadership roles as both studio head and chief game designer at Clovers, symbolically linked to his former company. Clovers is concentrating on developing the sequel to Okami, an original title directed by Kamiya himself.

During a conversation with VGC, Kamiya reflected on his departure from PlatinumGames, contemplating the future of his colleagues still working there.

"I would not have left if I had been content at Platinum," he remarked. "Having been VP and chief game designer, my exit raises concerns about the remaining staff.

"Naturally, if they're content and driven at Platinum, that is the ideal place for them. However, if there are those who share the vision we're creating at Clovers, we are eager to offer them a pathway to join us. I view this as a commitment I owe to anyone who feels aligned with our new vision after leaving Platinum."
