Meta has reduced its workforce within the Reality Labs division, though the exact number of affected employees remains undisclosed
Meta has made workforce reductions within its Reality Labs unit, impacting various teams, including those at Oculus Studios.
According to The Verge, Meta's representative Tracy Clayton stated that the layoffs aim to streamline operations at Oculus Studios. Over 100 employees might be affected, as noted by Bloomberg.
Clayton mentioned, "The restructuring at Oculus Studios entails adjustments in team structure and roles, which influence team size."
"These organizational modifications are aimed at enhancing Oculus Studios' efficiency in developing future mixed reality experiences for a growing user base, while also delivering quality content for existing audiences," Clayton added.
Meta reaffirms its commitment to advancing mixed reality experiences, with a strong focus on fitness and gaming, ensuring the best possible experiences for the Quest and Supernatural communities.
Sources conveyed to The Verge that hardware teams were among those affected, while Bloomberg noted that operational roles also faced cuts. Meta opted not to comment further on these details.
The layoffs have influenced projects like the VR fitness game Supernatural, where a statement on Facebook indicated the changes are meant to improve efficiency.
"Our team has long been tight-knit, making it challenging to part with team members who've significantly contributed to developing Supernatural and our community," the statement shared.
Previously, in February 2025, layoffs were observed at Sanzaru Games, another studio under Meta, as mentioned by UploadVR.
Sanzaru Games, known for developing Asgard's Wrath, joined Oculus Studios in 2020. Carlos Guiterrez, a former employee, revealed on LinkedIn that several staff members experienced layoffs.
Earlier in 2025, Meta disclosed a 5% workforce reduction, approximately 3,600 jobs, as performance-related cuts. Those based in the United States were informed of their status on February 10, while others worldwide received notifications subsequently.
In March 2023, Meta eliminated 10,000 positions and decided against filling 5,000 open roles to enhance its financial standing, according to GamesIndustry.biz.
