According to a report, Jon M. Chu, known for his work on "Wicked," has been linked to directing the adaptation of "Split Fiction."

The popular video game Split Fiction from Hazelight Studios is being adapted for the big screen, with Sydney Sweeney from Euphoria set to star. Wicked director, Jon M. Chu, is attached to direct the film adaptation.

According to Variety, the screenplay is being developed by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, known for their work on Deadpool and Wolverine. Production will be managed by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson's Story Kitchen, as well as Chu's company, Electronic Somewhere.

Insiders indicate it's not yet determined whether Sweeney will take on the role of Zoe Foster or Mio Hudson. Additionally, Sweeney is also linked to the project as an executive producer.

Earlier, Variety reported on a competitive bid among studios eager to secure the film adaptation rights for Split Fiction.

The game, which debuted on March 6, 2025, was an instant success. It is a cooperative multiplayer experience featuring two protagonists, Zoe and Mio, caught inside a virtual world of their own creation.

Within just 48 hours, the game sold one million copies, and by the end of its first week, sales hit two million units.

Additionally, it broke three Guinness World Records for being the most played and sold local co-op game on Steam both within 48 hours and within its first week of release.
