Nintendo has issued a caution regarding its ability to meet the high demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan.

In an extensive announcement on X/Twitter, Shuntaro Furukawa, the company's president, stated that 2.2 million applicants are vying for a chance to buy the eagerly awaited console through a lottery. This number considerably exceeds the available stock, suggesting that many interested buyers will face disappointment due to this overwhelming demand.

Applicants who do not win in the initial lottery are automatically enrolled in a subsequent one, with additional lotteries and booking systems being introduced "progressively" to other retailers.

The message concluded with reassurances to Japanese consumers that Nintendo intends to increase production and shipment of Switch 2 units substantially in the future.

In the United States, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 experienced delays due to President Donald Trump's "reciprocal" tariffs on imported products. Despite these issues, the launch date remains set for June 5.
