Nintendo reports that 2.2 million individuals in Japan have applied to pre-order the Switch 2
Nintendo has indicated that it may encounter difficulties in fulfilling the high demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 consoles within the Japanese market.
In an extensive post shared on X/Twitter, Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, disclosed that 2.2 million individuals in Japan have registered for the chance to purchase the highly anticipated console. This demand notably exceeds the available stock for Japanese consumers, suggesting that many potential buyers may be left unsatisfied due to the limited supply.
Those not chosen in the initial lottery will have their entries automatically transferred to a subsequent draw. Additional lotteries and reservation systems are expected to progressively become available through third-party vendors.
Nintendo concluded the statement by assuring Japanese consumers of its intentions to ramp up production and shipment of the Switch 2 consoles to satisfy future market needs.
The pre-order process for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States faced delays due to the impact of President Donald Trump’s "reciprocal" tariffs on imports. Despite these challenges, the console's release date remains set for June 5.
