Jason Citron, the CEO and co-founder of Discord, has resigned from his position
After ten years at the helm of Discord, Jason Citron, the platform's co-founder and CEO, has announced his resignation. Taking over as CEO on April 28 will be Humam Sakhnini, formerly president of King and vice chairperson at Activision Blizzard. Citron will retain a position on the board, transitioning to an advisory role to the new CEO.
Stanislav Vishnevskiy, who co-founded Discord with Citron, will continue in his current role as Chief Technology Officer.
Reflecting on his time at Discord, Citron remarked, "Building Discord over the last decade has been incredibly fulfilling. From the beginning, our mission has focused on uniting people through games." He expressed confidence in Sakhnini’s leadership, noting his extensive experience in the gaming industry and his ability to grow enterprises while nurturing connections around gaming. According to Citron, this leadership change is expected to propel Discord forward, enhancing opportunities for the platform's community and partners.
Sakhnini shared his enthusiasm about joining Discord, highlighting its critical role within the gaming world. "Discord is a fundamental piece of the gaming ecosystem that millions depend on daily," he stated. He commended the efforts of Citron and Vishnevskiy in creating a platform where diverse communities come together, showing his eagerness to work with the team to expand their reach while maintaining the platform’s core mission.
Additionally, a recent report by GamesIndustry.biz revealed that Nintendo of America is seeking legal action against Discord to disclose the individual responsible for the "teraleak" related to Pokémon in October 2024.
