GamesBeat has officially separated from VentureBeat, establishing itself as an independent media entity.

In alignment with this change, Gina Joseph, the former chief strategy officer at VentureBeat, has been named CEO. With more than twenty years in media and technology leadership, Joseph's experience is extensive.

Her career with VentureBeat began in 2018 as the director of strategic partnerships, and she also played a significant role in launching the VentureBeat Lab.

Joseph quickly advanced through the ranks to vice president of strategic partnerships, then executive vice president of strategy and partnerships, and was elevated to CSO by March 2023.

Before her time at VentureBeat, Joseph led strategic partnerships at Hearst for four years and was in charge of digital ad sales strategy at MediaNews Group. She also holds positions on the boards of Midwest Games and the International Game Developers Association Foundation.

Dean Takahashi, who founded GamesBeat in 2008, has taken on the role of editorial director after the site's move to independence.

Having commenced his journalism career in 1988, Takahashi has dedicated himself to the gaming arena since 1996 with The Wall Street Journal.

The transition of GamesBeat has received support from advisors such as Peter Levin of Griffin Gaming Partners, along with Greg Akselrud and Kelly Siobhan Laffey from Stubbs Alderton & Markiles.

"We're thrilled to embark on this exciting new chapter for GamesBeat and the community we serve," Joseph remarked. "As an independent niche publication, we aim to offer unmatched insights, opportunities, and direct connections with key decision makers."

Joseph continued by expressing the goal of evolving GamesBeat into a leading industry platform, not only for news, but also to cultivate connections and opportunities among business leaders, aiding in industry growth while maintaining a strong tradition of providing influential thought leadership.

Reflecting on the future, Takahashi stated: "This marks a new era for GamesBeat. I've seen gaming mature into a significant force globally. As the industry transforms, precise reporting becomes crucial.

"Our ambition is to provide insightful journalism that gives our audience the context necessary to comprehend the intersection between gaming and other rapidly expanding sectors."
