The Finnish gaming company, Makea Games, has decided to shut down operations. The announcement was made by Tomi Toikka, who serves as the studio's CEO, founder, and creative director, via a statement on their Steam page. Toikka cited significant challenges posed by "global economic effects" that had severely impacted the studio.

The company’s parkour game, Supermoves, faced difficulties in attracting a sustainable player base. Additionally, they were developing a PvE horde shooter named Superstrike, which failed to gain traction promptly.

Toikka expressed that developing Supermoves, Superstrike, and the Makea Editor was a long-term effort, spanning over three years with contributions from more than 20 employees. Despite the dedication, they couldn't cultivate a long-term sustainable audience for Supermoves, which was deeply personal to the team.

Furthermore, as Makea Games worked on maintaining Supermoves, Toikka mentioned uncertainties about the game’s future online services. There is a possibility that features like online multiplayer playlists, the Makea editor, explore menu, and user-generated content, among others, may cease to operate online.

The studio is currently negotiating the future and ownership of its intellectual property, describing the situation as "ongoing" and "fluid." However, offline elements such as the single-player career mode will remain accessible without internet connectivity.

Toikka reassured players that should there be a need to discontinue online functionalities, they would be informed in advance. Players will continue to have access to the full single-player content of Supermoves, including Steam achievements and career mode levels, as stored in their Steam libraries.

Founded in 2022, Makea Games operated out of Tampere, Finland.
