Sony has announced price increases for PS5 consoles in Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand
Sony Interactive Entertainment has increased the prices for the standard PlayStation 5 console across Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand as of today.
In a blog update, Isabelle Tomatis, SIE's global marketing vice president, explained that these adjustments were necessary due to "a challenging economic environment."
The pricing for the PS5 Pro will remain the same.
Tomatis cited the impact of high inflation and changing exchange rates as key reasons for the increase, stating, "SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price of the PS5 console in select markets."
Additionally, prices for the PS5 are set to go up in the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), though specific figures weren’t mentioned. Customers in these regions are encouraged to verify prices with local vendors or on direct.playstation.com.
For Europe and the UK, the PS5 digital edition now costs €499.99/£429.99, and the standard PS5 with a disc drive maintains its current price.
Both versions of the console in Australia and New Zealand have seen price hikes. The standard PS5, including the disc drive, is now AUD $829.95/NZD $949.95, while the digital edition is priced at AUD $749.95/NZD $859.95.
The cost of the standalone PS5 disc drive has been reduced. It is priced at €79.99/£69.99 in Europe and the UK, and AUD $124.95/NZD $139.95 in Australia and New Zealand.
