The Minecraft soundtrack is set to be inducted into the US National Recording Registry

The soundtrack from Minecraft has been selected for inclusion in the US National Recording Registry.

Created by Daniel Rosengeld, the album Minecraft: Volume Alpha will be conserved alongside the Microsoft reboot sound by British composer Brian Eno.

The music from Minecraft is the second video game score to be added to the registry, following the Super Mario Bros. theme in 2023.

Carla Hayden, Librarian of Congress, stated, "These are the sounds of America – our wide-ranging history and culture."

She elaborated, "The Library of Congress is proud and honored to select these audio treasures worthy of preservation, including iconic music across a variety of genres, field recordings, sports history, and even the sounds of our daily lives in technology."

In the previous year, Minecraft was included in the Game Culture Canon by the Swedish games trade body, Dataspelsbranschen, as part of Sweden's cultural minister Parisa Liljestrand's initiative to create an official culture canon.

This week, a Minecraft film adaptation achieved a $157 million box office return in the United States over its debut weekend.

The movie, released last Friday (April 4) with a $150 million budget, was initially projected to earn between $70 million and $80 million.
