CD Projekt Red has announced its merger with The Molasses Flood
The Molasses Flood, a game developer based in Boston, has officially merged with CD Projekt Red, becoming part of the CDPR Group.
The merger, which was formalized on April 1, 2025, was announced by The Molasses Flood on their website.
This integration, previously mentioned in CD Projekt's 2024 financial report, aims to better align the direction of Project Sirius, a multiplayer game set in The Witcher universe, announced in 2022.
Following the merger, The Molasses Flood ceased to exist as a separate entity, with CD Projekt Red inheriting all rights and responsibilities of the studio.
Despite the merger, the availability and distribution of the games "The Flame in the Flood" and "Drake's Hollow" will remain unchanged, with both titles continuing under CD Projekt Red's management.
Damian Isla, co-founder of The Molasses Flood, expressed that this move was beneficial for the studio in a LinkedIn post.
Isla noted that the merger removes some organizational hurdles and integrates The Molasses Flood team more closely with CDPR, suggesting a promising outlook for Project Sirius.
In the same post, Isla disclosed his decision to leave the studio.
Reflecting on his tenure, Isla remarked on the significant impact the studio had on his life, creating memorable and unique projects within a challenging market for small teams.
The Molasses Flood was originally acquired by CD Projekt Red in 2021, and subsequently began development on Project Sirius, officially revealed in October 2022.
However, a reset in the project's development in March 2023 resulted in writing off over $7 million in 2022 and $2.2 million in 2023 due to reassessments of the project's potential.
This reset led to the unfortunate layoff of 29 employees in May 2023, accounting for about half the original development team.
Despite these setbacks, Project Sirius remains in development, with CD Projekt Red confirming its progression to pre-production in its latest financial update.
