The merger was disclosed in CD Projekt's FY24 financial statements to synchronize efforts for Project Sirius, a multiplayer game set in The Witcher's universe announced in 2022.

With this integration, The Molasses Flood will no longer exist as a standalone entity, with CD Projekt Red taking on all its responsibilities. However, their projects, The Flame in the Flood and Drake's Hollow, will remain available and are now published by CD Projekt Red.

In a LinkedIn post, co-founder Damian Isla expressed that this move is beneficial for the studio, integrating more closely with CDPR's broader operations.

He stated that the merger paves the way for a promising future for Project Sirius and announced his departure from the studio, reflecting on his time there and the achievements they've made.

The Molasses Flood was bought by CD Projekt Red in 2021, marking the start of their work on Project Sirius, unveiled in October 2022. However, in March 2023, CD Projekt Red wrote off development costs of over $7 million incurred in 2022 and $2.2 million in 2023 as the project was redefined.

Due to shifting strategies, 29 employees were laid off in May 2023, approximately half of the team at that point. Though Project Sirius faced setbacks, it continues in pre-production, as confirmed in CD Projekt Red's recent financial update.
