The IGDA-F has bolstered its dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion by appointing a new chair
Shannon Loftis has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the International Game Developers Association Foundation (IGDA-F).
She succeeds Ed Fries, who will continue to serve as a board member after stepping down from the chair role he held for two years.
With a background of more than three decades in game development and a strong focus on inclusivity from her tenure at Microsoft, Loftis is expected to advance the Foundation's objectives regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion in the global developer community.
Loftis expressed, “I'm thrilled and honored to lead this board, and to work closely with the foundation and with the IGDA.”
She added, “The IGDA Foundation is one of the most inclusive, intersectional, globally-relevant, and effective organizations in game development and I believe our mission is more crucial today than ever before.”
Ed Fries commented, “I have worked alongside Shannon since our days at Microsoft; she’s an excellent leader whose background and experience in the industry make her a perfect fit to take on the role of Chair. I am confident that the IGDA Foundation will stay true to its values under her guidance.”
Although connected, the IGDA-F operates separately from the IGDA and is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting underrepresented and marginalized game developers worldwide through programs such as professional development, mentorships, scholarships, and game jams.
The previous year saw the International Game Developers Association challenging the United States Patent and Trademark Office over a new rule requiring applicants' home addresses for trademark proceedings. More on this can be found here.
