During its debut weekend in the United States, "A Minecraft Movie" by Warner Bros. Pictures achieved impressive box office earnings of $157 million, totaling $301 million worldwide.

As reported by Variety, initial projections for the film’s performance were between $70 million and $80 million. The film, which premiered on April 4, had a production budget of $150 million.

This release has also marked the highest domestic earnings for any film debut in 2025, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter.

For context, Illumination's "Super Mario Bros. Movie" generated $146 million during its initial three-day weekend in the U.S., positioning "A Minecraft Movie" as the leading video game adaptation in terms of opening-weekend domestic earnings.

Despite this, the Super Mario film, which was released on April 5, 2023, commenced on a Wednesday. Evaluating its five-day performance, it reached $204.6 million domestically, with global revenues hitting $377 million.

"We are genuinely thrilled by the warm embrace audiences worldwide have shown A Minecraft Movie," expressed Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, the studio co-heads at Warner Bros.

They further stated, "It has been a decade-long endeavor to bring A Minecraft Movie to fruition, meticulously managed by Jesse Ehrman and his team at Warner Bros. Pictures. Their dedication is evident in this outstanding success."

Warner Bros. first disclosed plans for a Minecraft film adaptation in 2014. Following this, in 2015, Minecraft developer Mojang appointed Rob McElhenney, co-creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as director.

By 2019, the director role transitioned to Peter Sollett, famously associated with Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist. Ultimately, the film was directed by Jared Hess, recognized for his work on Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre.
